A Passion for Seating
A touch of tradition for your home
Genuine sheepskins and lambskins
A sheepskin is the tanned hide of a sheep with its dense, soft wool. Here you will find sheepskins from Germany and Iceland, as a seat pad for chairs and benches, as a throw for the sofa or as a small rug beside the bed. We use the same sheepskins for our sheep stools.
Why genuine sheepskin?
- Naturally warm: the wool insulates without overheating. It keeps you warm in winter and feels cool in summer.
- Breathable: sheepskin absorbs moisture and releases it again. That keeps the seat comfortable.
- Kind to the skin: the lanolin in the wool is gentle on the skin and makes life difficult for house dust mites.
- Long-lasting: properly tanned sheepskins last for many years with good care.
German sheepskin or Icelandic sheepskin?
German sheepskin has dense, short to medium-length wool and is very robust. Icelandic sheepskin has long, silky wool and is especially fluffy. The type of fleece is given in the fact sheet of each product, along with size and colour.
Where a sheepskin fits in
On the sofa and your favourite armchair, on the bench at the dining table, as a seat pad in the car, in the pram or as a rug beside the bed. In front of the fireplace it becomes the favourite spot.
Care
Shake out regularly and brush up with a fleece brush. Dab stains straight away with a damp cloth. If needed, hand wash with fleece detergent at no more than 30 degrees, then dry flat in the air. You will find detailed instructions in our article Washing sheepskin.
Frequently asked questions
Where do the sheepskins come from? Mainly from Germany and Iceland. They are a by-product of sheep farming and are properly tanned.
Are sheepskins suitable for allergy sufferers? Sheepskin is kind to the skin and makes life difficult for mites. Many people with sensitive skin tolerate it well. If you have a wool allergy, talk to your doctor first.
Can I wash my sheepskin in the washing machine? Many sheepskins tolerate the wool cycle at 30 degrees with fleece detergent. Check the care label. Hand washing is the gentler choice.
Are the colours natural? White, beige, grey, brown and black are natural colours. Coloured sheepskins are dyed with dyes approved for leather and wool.
